Once up on a time in The Land Of Art there was an Indian Tribe that was short on wampum.
They spotted a wagon carrying
two artists coming over the mountain.
The Indians could tell that the strangers were artists as they wore berets and
smocks.
As the wagon approached, the Indians rolled a large red stone towards the wagon breaking a wheel.
Seizing the moment,
the artists immediately pulled out their brushes and started painting the Indians.
Thus it was established that The Land Of Art is
the place where artists flourish, multiply, create great visual art and find wampum.
Recognizing the significance of the red
stone which changed the course of their lives, the artists chose the red dot as their symbol to show that a piece of art
has sold and wampum is on its way.
This tradition has since spread through out The Land of Art and is honored today.
( Art
historians today believe that The Land of Art is located in Nothern New Mexico in general and the Taos area in particular.)
